Preachers, Churches and Political Correctness

Hello everybody, hope that your week is going well. My topic today is, as you can see, a controversial one. We live in a day and time when the world is pushing political correctness on us at a high rate of speed. Also, it’s not just the speed, but the pressure that they are pushing it with.

The Bible tells us that the preacher is to preach the word, in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine. The Bible also tells us that believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are to be in the world, but not over the world. It also says that if any man loves the world the love of the father is not in him. So, my question today, or it may be best to say my statement today, is what in the world is wrong with preachers and churches today?

It seems today that preachers have so watered down their messages and their preaching, it would appear in hopes of pleasing people. The Bible in the book of Galatians 1:10 tells us, “For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” It also tells us in 2 Timothy 2:4, “No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier.” Now excuse me if I’m wrong, but I believe that God is the one that calls a preacher. If you decided it was a good thing to do, you could make some money, it would make mom and dad happy, it was an easy life. You should shut your mouth and go sell cars. You need to be God called to the ministry in order to be a preacher.

We have too many weak kneed, sorry preachers in pulpits today saying things to please people, not at all concerned about pleasing God! Their only concern is their paycheck, their retirement, the next bigger place for them to speak. They are more of a hindrance than a help to the cause of Christ.

Now for the churches, what in the world are you thinking? Why in the world would you want a man in your pulpit that pleases you, and not God? Many of you are more concerned about the next potluck than you are about the gospel reaching the lost. You worry about the color of the Sunday school classrooms, but don’t have time to go out soul winning! You set around and talk about other church members and your pastor, never considering the large log that’s in your own eye. Deacons aren’t to run the preacher and the church, there to serve the needy in the church and wait tables. It’s not a deacon board, it’s a deacon body. I heard a long time ago, “take the deacon off the board, put the board on him.” And that truly is a motto for every preacher to live by.

Solution to these problems of sorry preachers and lazy worldly churches? It’s a word that many have overlooked and most pulpits don’t preach anymore, repentance! Get on your face before God confess your sin of pride and arrogance, of seeking to please man rather than God, and let God breathe afresh and anew into you, and may the Holy Spirit begin to work in you.

Preachers and churches that are out of God’s will are the worst testimony for Christianity there could ever be. Backslidden Christians are the problem with the world today. Christians who are afraid to live and preach the truth of God’s word. The cause of Christ can do without you until you get your heart right, turn from your wicked way, and proclaim again the truth of God’s word, and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Final thought, churches, if you don’t have a preacher who stands up and boldly proclaims the word of God, fire him and find one that does, you and your community will be a whole lot better off for it.
