Preach the Word!

“I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the Word; be instant in season, and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:1-2 KJV

Here we have Paul writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to Timothy, Paul’s young protégé. Paul starts out with a solemn affirmation to Timothy to preach the word! Preach meaning to; herald or proclaim, the Word; Gods inerrant, infallible, inspired Word. Then he goes on to say that Timothy is to reprove, rebuke, exhort, (2/3 of preaching is to correct or straighten people out as they follow Christ). With patience and doctrine (what you believe), so a preacher is to preach the Word, not share a nice story, he is to proclaim the Word as a herald, with authority. Not be a story teller, Jesus used parables in His ministry, that does not mean that we should do that today. Jesus was God in the flesh, he also raised the dead and healed the sick.

Preachers today need to preach the Word with authority! They need to use sound doctrine! People need to know what the Bible says, not what the preacher says. What the Bible has for us, not some cunning story, we need more preachers of the Word, men who are not afraid of people, of losing a job, of ruffling feathers, of disturbing the status quo. Men of God who are called by God to preach the Word, come hell or high water. To stand with a straight back and proclaim the Word of God! Preachers who love people enough to tell them the truth according to Gods Word!

We need preachers who walk the walk and don’t just talk the talk. We need Biblical preachers who rule their house well, men who are not afraid of their wives, or afraid of the deacon board, take the deacon off the board put the board on him! Men who have children who are not the church hellions. Preachers that their churches can look up to with respect, knowing that they are doing their best to please God.

Being a God called pastor and preacher of the Word of God is not for wimps! It is for men of courage, men of honor, men who love God more than anything. Men who will love the congregation that called them and will serve that congregation to the best of their ability. Always looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. We need some old fashion preachers of the Word of God! This is not a day for soft spoken, fishy hand shakers, afraid to offend anyone except Jesus.

More next time…
