Galatians 5 Justification by Faith Part Three

As we continue in Galatians Chapter 5, Paul is finishing his thought on how love fulfills the law. Verses 14-15 tell us that the law is fulfilled in one word “love”. Christ was always telling His followers that they should love one another. Of course after we have put God first in our hearts and love God as we should. We should not be critical of others or it will come back around to us. As Scripture says, you reap whatsoever you sow. We have long heard this statement “what goes around comes around.” That is pretty much what Paul is saying.

Going on Paul tells us to walk in the Spirit, by doing so we will not live a worldly life in the flesh. Following after sin of every kind and color. For the flesh fights against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh (v. 17), he goes on to say that these two are contrary to each other. All to often a believer does what he or she should not be doing because they allow the flesh to win out. It is a constant struggle to live a Spirit led life. The First Epistle of John tell us that the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life cause us to fall into sin. Interesting how that is, the Devil doesn’t have to do anything, we do it to ourselves by what our body desires, what we fix our eyes upon and the pride that gets many of us in trouble.

The law was given to give us a guideline, of do’s and don’ts if you will. It was never intended to get us to heaven. That happens only by our putting our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Galatians 2:21 informs us “that if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” So, the law cannot make us “right” with God the Father. We cannot expect to get to heaven by living a life that follows the law. Keeping the 10 Commandments will not get you to heaven. Jesus said that He was the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by Him!

So, friend, I am sorry to tell you but baptism will not get you to heaven, church membership will not get you there, being a good person will not get you to heaven. Don’t get me wrong, all of those things are good to do, but they will not get you to heaven according to the Bible (God’s one and only revelation of Himself to man). You should read Romans chapter 10 verses 9-13 for instructions on how to get to heaven. Oh by the way, no one church has a corner on the market, if a church or cult says that they are the only way to eternal life, run from them as fast as you can and find a good Bible preaching church to attend and learn as much of God’s Word as you can.

You should be led by the Spirit, not following the works of the law, in order to get to heaven (v. 18; I Tim 1:9). Certainly not the writings of false prophets like Joseph Smith, Charles T Russell, Mary Eddy Baker, Ellen G White, Alexander Campbell and on and on… They were all people seeking fame for themselves, they have fooled millions into being comfortable on their way to Hell. Read the Bible for yourself, without any help from others and see for yourself what it says about eternal life. After all it is your soul and the souls of your children hanging in the balance…

More next time.
