Church Attendance

Hello! Well spring is upon us, summer is following hot on its heels. It’s that time of year when people are too busy to attend church services. We use every excuse under the sun to avoid getting up and going to worship God on Sunday morning. Some say it’s part of the modern culture, some say people have more important things to do, but I say it’s sin.

Now there are times that making church on Sunday is not possible. Sometimes we are sick, sometimes we’re out of town, maybe even family stops by and causes us to miss church services. I have been leading a study on the book of Revelation, we just got finished with seven letters to the churches. The church of Laodicea got, what we would call, a very critical letter. God told them he would rather they were hot or cold, but they were lukewarm.

They thought they were rich and increased with goods, they thought they had no needs whatsoever, they thought they didn’t need God in their lives. God told them that they were miserable, wretched, blind, naked, and poor. I believe that to be most Christians today. They simply do not take time for God anymore. They are too busy with their worldly, everyday lives. They program God out and think that it’s okay for them to do that. People make excuses such as I’m trying to figure things out so I don’t go to church right now.

My opinion is; when you’re trying to figure things out the best place to be is in church. Hearing the word of God preached, fellowshipping with the people of God, singing praises to the King of kings and Lord of lords. But, people are lukewarm, and God is not pleased with their actions. The book of Revelation is a very good book, it depicts exactly what’s been happening to those people who don’t have time for God now.

They say they don’t need to attend church, they say they can still be a good Christian without going to church. To that I say wrong! There’s no way you can be a good Christian and not attend church! Jesus told Peter in Matthew 16:18 “upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” the church, the church is the bride of Christ and yet church attendance means so little to some of you. In the book of Hebrews chapter 10 in verse 25 the word of God says; not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching. (KJV)

So, basically God is saying that you need to be with other believers, in worship of God, in support of one another, as we all go through trials and need the support. But you always have the devil trying to draw people away from God’s people just like an ember that kicks out from the fire gets cold and burns out because by itself it doesn’t have the flame from the other pieces of wood to keep it hot and burning. So is the believer who is outside of God’s will, and outside of the church. Do not accept the lies of the devil stay in church and stay strong for Jesus.

More next time.

There is nothing like the fellowship with other believers. The PEACE and COMFORT it gives you when you spend time with other like-minded souls is the PEACE that only comes from GOD. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”. Spending time studying Gods Word and worshipping him is never time “wasted”. Time is the currency that God spends.
